Ethan Hunter (he/him) is a sound designer whose work spans theatre, dance, film, and installation.
 His credits include GAG Reflex and Back to Te Maunga at La Mama, What’s Yours and LUKE at Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? for both Sydney Theatre Company and Red Stitch, Boys on the Verge of Tears at fortyfivedownstairs, Flesh Vessel for The Australian Ballet, I Met an Angel Named Jacques at Footscray Community Arts, I hope this means something at Chapel Off Chapel, Laundry Shoot and MinusOneSister at Theatre Works, alongside numerous VCA productions. 

Ethan’s practice abstracts organic sound and synthesis into immersive sensory environments, creating performances that are not only atmospheric but participatory for audiences and performers. He works closely with directors, dancers, and choreographers to integrate speech, gesture, and spatial sound as core dramaturgical elements, pushing form and risk to make genre‑defying work. Driven by collaboration and a belief in sound‑led creation, Ethan aims to develop a contemporary performance company where sonic design shapes process, structure, and audience experience.

A world premiere developed through Red Stitch’s INK program, LUKE is a dark, winding examination of truth and regret. 

One night in 2007, Chris - fresh out of high school - drinks, argues and philosophises with his two older teacher friends, Damon and Olena. But when a buried secret begins to surface, the night takes an irreversible turn, and their lives are rewritten forever.

A decades-spanning, form-bending and proudly queer Australian story from playwright Angus Cameron, LUKE is directed by Iain Sinclair. Intimate, provocative and unflinching -&#38;nbsp; this is contemporary theatre at its boldest.

A trio of best friends team up to win a manuscript contest so that they can afford the summer of their dreams. If they can’t win the cash prize, they’re definitely 1000% gonna have the most boring holidays ever and then probably never see each other again because what if they get into different unis??

They’re limited on time and they figure – given their algorithms – that their best chance lies in writing a literary masterpiece about lesbian vampires fucking. And also ****ing and ******ing &#38;nbsp;&#38;lt;3.

Their ideas about sex, romance and relationships are explored as they write, edit and upload the work. Also... they all have literally 0 IRL sexual experience.

In this jet-black comedy featuring some of the most cracking dialogue and savage one-liners ever written for the stage, real-life couple, Kat Stewart&#38;nbsp;and&#38;nbsp;David Whiteley&#38;nbsp;play Martha and George, whose marriage is served up to their unwitting guests, played by&#38;nbsp;Emily Goddard&#38;nbsp;and&#38;nbsp;Harvey Zielinski, as a taste of the humiliations and the inevitable compromises to come. 

Simply one of the greatest plays ever written, Edward Albee’s classic masterpiece first burst onto the stage in 1962, tapping into a growing unease about notions of decency and respectability, in a vicious dissection of a marriage over years of disappointments. This masterful play is an ode to the heartbreak of middle age.

Enter Jacques: an ambitious cultural critic with a sharp tongue and a mind that cuts through the noise. An interview between Jacques and L’or inflames unhealed wounds&#38;nbsp;and sparks a curiosity for each other’s minds that leads to complicated emotions.

Chunky Move’s highly anticipated and ambitious stage spectacle U&#38;gt;N&#38;gt;I&#38;gt;T&#38;gt;E&#38;gt;D premieres as part of Asia TOPA.

A stellar line up of six dancers explore machine mysticism and the persistence of spirituality in a post-industrial digital age, set to gamelan-infused, Javanese trance-inspired techno beats. The dancers’ upcycled, motocross-inspired, exoskeleton costumes, transform them into post-human tech-adorned mythological beings.

This landmark work is a major international collaboration with leaders in the Javanese experimental scene, Gabber Modus Operandi (featured on Björk's album Fossora), Bali-based streetwear label Future Loundry and world leaders in animatronic design, Creature Technology Co.

Experience an otherworldly night of sophisticated movement, infectious music and science fiction-inspired design that honours technologies both ancient and contemporary; inner and collective.

Chunky Move’s highly anticipated and ambitious stage spectacle U&#38;gt;N&#38;gt;I&#38;gt;T&#38;gt;E&#38;gt;D premieres as part of Asia TOPA.

A stellar line up of six dancers explore machine mysticism and the persistence of spirituality in a post-industrial digital age, set to gamelan-infused, Javanese trance-inspired techno beats. The dancers’ upcycled, motocross-inspired, exoskeleton costumes, transform them into post-human tech-adorned mythological beings.

This landmark work is a major international collaboration with leaders in the Javanese experimental scene, Gabber Modus Operandi (featured on Björk's album Fossora), Bali-based streetwear label Future Loundry and world leaders in animatronic design, Creature Technology Co.

Experience an otherworldly night of sophisticated movement, infectious music and science fiction-inspired design that honours technologies both ancient and contemporary; inner and collective.

Premiering at the Soho Theatre in London, and recipient of the prestigious Verity Bargate Award, Sam Grabiner’s Boys on the Verge of Tears – set entirely within the intimate confines of a men’s public bathroom, is a bold, searing exploration of masculinity and youth, capturing the raw, unfiltered lives of boys and men grappling with identity, vulnerability, and the pressure to conform. 

In its Australian premiere, presented by the producers of runaway hit Trophy Boys (fortyfivedownstairs 2023), five of Melbourne’s finest actors will embody over 45 characters as this deeply human play unfolds in a unique series of encounters: moments of recklessness, bravado, and unexpected tenderness, immersing audiences in the unfiltered experience of young men navigating the tumultuous journey towards adulthood.

With sharp humour and a profound sensitivity to the complexities of coming-of-age, Grabiner’s play dismantles masculine façades of toughness and dissects the fears, dreams, and insecurities buried beneath.
