Ethan Hunter (he/him) is a sound designer whose work spans theatre, dance, film, and installation.
His credits include GAG Reflex and Back to Te Maunga at La Mama, What’s Yours and LUKE at Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? for both Sydney Theatre Company and Red Stitch, Boys on the Verge of Tears at fortyfivedownstairs, Flesh Vessel for The Australian Ballet, I Met an Angel Named Jacques at Footscray Community Arts, I hope this means something at Chapel Off Chapel, Laundry Shoot and MinusOneSister at Theatre Works, alongside numerous VCA productions.
Ethan’s practice abstracts organic sound and synthesis into immersive sensory environments, creating performances that are not only atmospheric but participatory for audiences and performers. He works closely with directors, dancers, and choreographers to integrate speech, gesture, and spatial sound as core dramaturgical elements, pushing form and risk to make genre‑defying work. Driven by collaboration and a belief in sound‑led creation, Ethan aims to develop a contemporary performance company where sonic design shapes process, structure, and audience experience.
